XLR8 MAChSpeed ZIF Mac CPU upgrade uses large backside cache to turbocharge
its 600 MHz upgrade to 733 MHz equivalent G4 speeds.
Atlanta, Georgia, May 25, 2004: Daystar Technology, a leading Macintosh Technology Integrator, has expanded the XLR8 upgrade technology to deliver new "value-priced", high performance upgrades for Power Macintosh G3 owners.
Combining technologies from Daystar and XLR8, the new upgrade utilizes the proven performance of the backside cache, to turbocharge its MAChSpeed G4 ZIF upgrade. The resulting upgrade delivers a 600 MHz upgrade that rivals the Power Macintosh G4 'QuickSilver' 733 system. Power Macintosh G3 speed improvements range for 2.5x in normal applications, to 8x in OSX optimized applications.
"We wanted to provide an upgrade that delivers leading edge OSX G4 performance at an affordable price. We saw an opportunity with the current version of the 7410 CPU. The loss of the backside cache in the more expensive 7450 series, severely impacted performance of CPUs in the 700-933 MHz range. Expanding the performance of the 7410 allows us to deliver a high level performance at a reasonable cost," said Gary Dailey, president of Daystar. " Additionally, this is the only upgrade that can perform at full system bus speeds, at 600 MHz, in both the Blue&White and Beige systems."

The MAChSpeed 500/600 G4 ZIF utilizes the Motorola 7410500LE PowerPC G4 CPU. The advantages of this CPU being its ability to utilize a large backside cache, a proven performance enhancement in Apple based systems. The XLR8 design uses the higher-power, special application specification from Motorola to enable the CPU at 600 MHz.
The MAChSpeed G4 ZIF is user installable in minutes, and includes the XLR8 MAChSpeed Control software which provides exclusive compatibility for the 'beige' Power Macintosh G3 owners.
