XLR8 Info FAQ - OSX Compatibility

1. What products are OS X compatible?
This page provides the most up-to-date Mac OS X compatibility information for XLR8 products. XLR8 Provides compatibility with all version of OSX, including 10.3 (Panther). This compatibility statement covers the following:

  • MACh Velocity G4 (1 or 2 processors)
  • MACh Fire PCI
  • DualPort USB
  • Point&Scroll Mouse
  • IceView Hub
  • InterView 2.0 USB, InterView 2.0 USB/PCI


    MAChSpeed G3, MAChCarrier G3, MAChCarrier G4 SSE, Carrier IF, CarrierZIF SSE
    (7300-9600 Series PCI-based Power Macs and Clones)

    Apple does not officially support any "pre-G3" systems for use with OS X. In most circumstances the Mac OS X Installation CD-ROM will not be able to install on an unsupported system.     If you succeed with the installation of OS X on your legacy system, XLR8 MAChSpeed Control 3.0 (or later) must be installed to enable the backside cache under OS X. Purchase MAChSpeed Control - OSX

    MAChSpeed G3 ZIF, MAChSpeed G3 ZIF
    (Beige G3 Desktop, Tower and All In One; Blue and White G3; ZIF-based G4 systems)

    All of the systems supported by the MAChSpeed G3 ZIF are fully compatible with Mac OS X. There should be no issues installing or using Mac OS X resulting from the use of XLR8 MAChSpeed G3 ZIF processor upgrades. MAChSpeed G3 ZIF is fully utilized by OS X when installed in these machines. XLR8 MAChSpeed Control 2.6.1 must be installed to enable the backside cache, and is supported by XLR8 under OS X. Purchase MAChSpeed Control - OSX

    MAChSpeed G4 PISMO
    (PowerBook G3 with FireWire systems)

    The MAChSpeed G4 PISMO is supported under Mac OS X. XLR8 MAChSpeed Control - OSX should be installed (but is not required) to enable the backside cache, and is supported by XLR8 under OS X. Purchase MAChSpeed Control - OSX

    MAChSpeed G4 ZIF, MAChSpeed G4 ZIF
    (Beige G3 Desktop, Tower and All In One; Blue and White G3; ZIF-based G4 systems)

    Both of XLR8’s G4 ZIF upgrades, the MAChSpeed G4 ZIF and the MAChSpeed G4 ZIF , are supported under Mac OS X. XLR8 MAChSpeed Control - OSX must be installed (is not required on the Blue&White) to enable the backside cache, and is supported by XLR8 under OS X. Purchase MAChSpeed Control - OSX

    MACh Velocity G4 (1 or 2 processors)
    (Beige G3 Desktop and MiniTower)

    The MACh Velocity G4 (discontinued due to unresolved compatibility issues) will currently function under OS X 10.0.4 utilizing dual processors. Dual processor support for later versions of OS X (OS X 10.1.x) is not currently available, due to Apple's continuing development of the OS. XLR8 MAChSpeed Control 2.6.1 will enable the first processor under OS X 10.1.x, and is supported by XLR8. Download MAChSpeed Control 2.6.1

    MAChFire PCI
    (Any PCI-Based Macintosh)

    MAChFire PCI is compatible with Mac OS X. No additional software is required from XLR8 for full functionality. (Note: FireWire/1394 devices may require OS X drivers to function. If you have questions about a particular device and its compatibility with OS X, contact the device manufacturer.)

    DualPort USB
    (Any PCI-Based Macintosh)

    DualPort USB is compatible with Mac OS X. No additional drivers from XLR8 are required for full functionality. (Note: USB devices may require OS X drivers to function. If you have questions about a particular device and its compatibility with OS X, contact the device manufacturer.)

    Point&Scroll Mouse
    (Any USB-Equipped Macintosh)

    The XLR8 Point&Scroll Mouse is compatible with Mac OS X. Both left and right mouse buttons function, although the buttons are not configurable at this time. The current mapping of the buttons is that the left button is click and the right button brings up the contextual menus. The scrolling wheel functions in Cocoa applications, while Carbon and Classic applications currently do not scroll. An configuration utility may be released at a later date to allow greater flexibility under Mac OS X.

    IceView Hub
    (Any USB-Equipped Macintosh)

    The XLR8 IceView hub works completely independent of the operating system installed. There are no known problems with Mac OS X and the IceView Hub.

    InterView 1.0- 2.2 USB
    (Any USB-Equipped or PCI-based Macintosh)

    InterView 1.0 does not support OS X. A software upgrade (serial number) can be purchased via http://Daystar-Store.com for $40. InterView 2.0 and up, do support OSX and the drivers are available via http://daystartechnology.com/support/usbivosx.
